Diagnosis of Tooth Decay
How Diagnocam Laser Caries Diagnosis Works
The device works using the transillumination method: a beam of light is directed at the tooth; healthy tissue allows the light to pass through, while decayed tissue blocks it. The image is displayed on the screen in real time, allowing the dentist to show parents all the damaged teeth and assess the depth of the decay to develop a treatment plan. If necessary, images can be saved to digital media or printed out.

How Laser Diagnostics Is Performed
During the procedure, a special sensor is placed in the child’s mouth; it emits light, captures the image with a digital camera, and displays it on a monitor.

Advantages of laser diagnostics
  • High effectiveness: According to statistics, Diagnocam detects cavities on the lateral surfaces of teeth twice as often as X-rays, and four times as often on the chewing surfaces.
  • Safety: The examination is performed without radiation exposure. Therefore, it can be used even on infants and children with serious underlying medical conditions.
  • Comfort: The procedure is performed right in the dentist’s chair. While the dentist explains the condition of the young patient’s teeth to the parents, the child can watch cartoons.
  • Early Diagnosis: Diagnocam allows for the detection of cavities at their very earliest stage. In such cases, treatment is possible without a drill and without fillings, using a special technique—microabrasive preparation with Rondoflex devices.
Dental Caries Diagnosis in Warsaw
When is a Diagnocam test recommended?
The primary indication for this examination is the detection of early-stage caries, which is difficult to identify with the naked eye. This is especially true for lesions in hard-to-reach areas, such as the contact surfaces of teeth.

Another reason for using Diagnocam is to detect secondary caries that develops under fillings.
The examination is performed during a routine dental checkup or if a child complains of pain or discomfort when consuming hot or cold foods or beverages.
A Diagnocam examination is a mandatory step in the diagnostic process for specialists—such as oral surgeons, orthodontists, and prosthodontists—and is performed in conjunction with radiographic methods to refine the diagnosis and develop a treatment plan.
